Tourism leader recognised as ‘Australia’s most influential woman’
Carnival Cruises’ CEO Ann Sherry has been recognised as Australia’s ‘most influential’ woman by the Australian Financial Review. A doyen of the cruise industry, Ann has played a key role in the Australian cruising industry becoming one of the greatest success stories in the tourism industry over the past decade.
The industry targeted one million Australian cruising passengers per year by 2020, but actually reached that target this year, five years early. Cruising has had 10 consecutive years of double digit growth and the industry generates $4 billion a year in economic activity and supports more than 10,000 jobs.
So how did cruise tourism achieve such results? “We transformed the quality of the product, dramatically increased capacity, attracted different demographics and opened about 40 new destinations in Australia and the Pacific,” says Ann.
