The Northern Australia Tourism Initiative

The Northern Australia Tourism initiative, one of the recommendations of the Northern Australia White Paper, provides advice and facilitation services to improve the business capabilities and networks of northern tourism businesses so that they can better capture growth opportunities.
The Government has committed $13.6 million to fund the delivery of services to tourism businesses in northern Australia. The the Northern Australia Tourism initiative consultation paper provides details of two business development programs to be introduced to help Northern Australian tourism businesses:
- 4 new Entrepreneurs program mentors to be employed by existing providers (industry based mainly) but based in Northern Australia (the proposal is for 2 in North Queensland, 1 in Darwin and 1 in North West Western Australia). This program will commence in the first quarter of 2016.
- 8 new contracts for tourism specific Australian Small Business Advisory Services programs worth $200,000 per year for three years (locations not set yet – but obviously Northern Australia based). This program will go to tender in new year.
