Hotel Career Expo update

March 30, 2016

Minister for Tourism, Senator Colbeck, has endorsed the inaugural Hotel Career Expo to be held in May.“The hotel industry is to be applauded for investing considerably in new and upgraded hotels– we now need to complement this new wave of hotel development with a new generation of skilled tourism and hospitality professionals to capitalise on growth,” said Senator Colbeck.

“The tourism sector currently has an estimated 38,000 unfilled vacancies and by 2020 the industry will need 123,000 new workers, which presents a great opportunity for people looking for a rewarding career,” he said.

“Tourism contributes over $100 billion to our economy, or 3 per cent of our GDP, and is one of five key super-growth sectors that will provide economic growth into the next decade. It is also a critical developer of regional Australia; accounting for 14 per cent of the rural economy.

“That is why we are taking a collaborative approach to support the tourism industry – working across various federal government portfolios, such as immigration and infrastructure – and also with our state and territory counterparts on initiatives like this.”

The Hotels Careers Expo is designed as the ultimate gateway for students, graduates and young professionals to find out more about the endless professional career opportunities available in Australia’s leading hotel brands – from hotel management, to sales and marketing, engineering, finance, IT, human resources, chefs and many more – there’s a career path for just about everyone in the hotel industry.

Taking place on Monday 16th May 2016 at the InterContinental Sydney Hotel, registration to attend the expo is now open via the website
