ACCC and Price Parity
November 24, 2015
Following our submission to ACCC last year opposing Expedia’s acquisition of Wotif, ACCC recognised that the issue of OTAs and price parity was of significant concern to accommodation providers and launched a survey to determine the impact of the consolidation of OTAs.
We are still waiting on the outcome of that survey. However we had regular contact with the ACCC to reinforce our concern at the impact of this acquisition which has effectively created a market duopoly – Expedia and Priceline.
With Expedia acquiring stakes in Trivago-Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, Wotif and now waiting on approval to buy the sharing economy site HomeAway for $3.9 billion, there are mounting concerns on the consolidation in the market and the impact on commissions.
